AWS Managed Blockchain AMB
Overview
Amazon Managed Blockchain (AMB) is a fully managed service that makes it easy to join public blockchain networks or create and manage scalable private networks using Hyperledger Fabric or Ethereum. It handles the heavy lifting of setting up the network, managing certificates, and scaling resources, allowing teams to focus on application development.
Key Strengths
- Fully managed — no need to provision hardware, configure software, or manage networking and security
- Deep AWS integration with IAM, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, and VPC for enterprise governance
- AMB Access for Ethereum and Bitcoin provides serverless access to public chain data without running nodes
- AMB Query APIs enable querying blockchain data with standard API patterns
- Automatic scaling and high availability across AWS Availability Zones
- Supports both Hyperledger Fabric private networks and public Ethereum/Bitcoin access
Cost
AWS Managed Blockchain uses pay-as-you-go pricing. For Hyperledger Fabric: peer node hours range from $0.134/hr (bc.t3.small) to $2.28/hr (bc.m5.4xlarge), plus $0.10/GB for peer node storage and $0.134/hr for the network CA. For AMB Access (Ethereum/Bitcoin): pricing is based on compute units consumed per API call. A typical small Fabric network costs $300-600/month.
Use Cases
- Organizations already invested in AWS looking for blockchain without operational overhead
- Rapid prototyping and proof-of-concept blockchain applications
- Multi-party workflows requiring auditable, immutable records
- Financial services compliance and audit trails
- Supply chain transparency for AWS-native enterprises
