Antelope ANT
Overview
Antelope is an open-source blockchain framework that evolved from the EOSIO codebase after Block.one stepped back from development. Maintained by a coalition including EOS Network Foundation, Telos, WAX, and UX Network, Antelope offers high throughput and feeless transactions. It powers several active public blockchains and is suitable for both public and private deployments.
Key Strengths
- High throughput — capable of thousands of transactions per second with sub-second finality
- Feeless transaction model for end users (resource staking model instead of per-tx gas fees)
- WebAssembly (WASM) smart contracts — write in C++ for near-native performance
- Human-readable account names instead of cryptographic addresses
- Governed by multiple independent chains, reducing single-point-of-failure risk
- Battle-tested in production on EOS, WAX (NFT/gaming), and Telos since 2018
Cost
Antelope is fully open-source under the MIT license with no licensing fees. Running a private network requires server infrastructure — typically $200-800/month for a minimal node setup. Public chain deployment requires staking resources (RAM, CPU, NET) which vary by chain but are generally very affordable for developers.
Use Cases
- High-frequency gaming and NFT platforms (WAX blockchain)
- Social media and content platforms (Telos, Voice)
- DeFi applications requiring high throughput and low latency
- Enterprise private networks with known validators
- Supply chain tracking and provenance
